The most important thing before attention to specific subjects is given is to ensure that the child understands and has mastered the basic academic skills, like writing, grammar, punctuation and basic mathematics. Once these skills have been mastered, the child need no longer struggle with the mechanics, but rather enjoy expressing new ideas and exploring subjects which might otherwise have remained beyond their reach.A child that has mastered grammar and writing can now express themselves freely instead of being frustrated because they are unable to adequately get their ideas down on paper.

 

Similarly a child that has mastered the basics of Math, will enjoy the challenges that more complex mathematical equations and puzzles may bring, instead of shying away from them.Our weekend clubs help ADHD children to overcome their fears of asking questions (fear of being laughed at by their peers in school) and in doing so allow them to become more confident and learn at their own pace without pressure from outside sources.
