ABOUT PECOP SOWETO
Why Basic Education Support and Rehab Academic Services ?
We could simply say: Why would you NOT give your child the best possible chance to succeed by ensuring they get a good education? Whatever that requires! The truth is that many children find themselves in big classes, where they simply do not get enough individual attention. As a result their inherent curiosity is not peeked, which causes them to lose interest in learning and to fall behind. This is a very common problem amongst learners of all ages and is something that requires a fresh approach, as well as dedication and commitment by parents, learners and tutors alike in order to get the learner back up to the required standard.
The most important thing before attention to specific subjects is given is to ensure that the child understands and has mastered the basic academic skills, like writing, grammar, punctuation and basic mathematics. Once these skills have been mastered, the child need no longer struggle with the mechanics, but rather enjoy expressing new ideas and exploring subjects which might otherwise have remained beyond their reach.A child that has mastered grammar and writing can now express themselves freely instead of being frustrated because they are unable to adequately get their ideas down on paper.
Similarly a child that has mastered the basics of Math, will enjoy the challenges that more complex mathematical equations and puzzles may bring, instead of shying away from them. Our weekend clubs help ADHD children to overcome their fears of asking questions (fear of being laughed at by their peers in school) and in doing so allow them to become more confident and learn at their own pace without pressure from outside sources.

Sincerely,

Our Philosophy
What is Personal Concept?
Personal concept refers to the different ideas we have about ourselves, these can be negative and positive ideas we have about ourselves. Our history of oppression in South Africa has resulted in mostly negative ideas about ourselves(us).
These are thoughts that destroy us and those around us especially when left unchallenged, a large number of young people have inherited negative thoughts about themselves and the environment, while only a few have managed to challenge these thoughts and built their lives.
The few young people that have managed to challenge the negative thoughts about themselves are the kind that Pecop Soweto wants to further engage in her activities to help win and engage all young people with negative thoughts about themselves and their immediate environment.
Our History
History and Mission
Since its founding in 1997, Personal Concept Project (PECOP) has worked to ensure that local children and youth have the information and capacity they need to remain in school and prevent unwanted pregnancies, drug addiction or health challenges /diseases. The organization pursues this mission by providing comprehensive and basic skills and education to the youth by advocating for youth and teens wellbeing including awareness on their right of access to information, education and communication services (IEC).
As a complement to its services around Soweto, PECOP has worked for over a decade to promote literacy, sexual and reproductive health, information and communication including wellness activities in townships around Soweto. The organization’s main campaign, known as the Teenagers Responsible In Building E-Kasie or TRIBE, has worked with local partners in more than 20 townships to date.
